Written about my personal favourite episode from the fourth series of Doctor Who "Midnight", Xtonic's lyrics are from the point of view of the unnamed consciousness that possesses Sky Silvestry, and then the Doctor himself.
The being in "Midnight" is one that, like many people, strives for social acceptance by assimilating the best characteristics of the people around it. Social mirroring can be a harmless way of becoming more easily integrated into a new group or situation, or it can become something more aggressive, resulting in power and dominance struggles that can break apart relationships if taken too far.
lyrics
Just one, one small strip of you,
That's all I am,
You can lead me, you can say,
And I will say,
When did we start repeating ourselves?
When did we start repeating ourselves?
I'm on your nerves and not giving in,
Now you've started I can begin!
Because I know that, I know that,
I can only imitate you,
But I know that, I know that,
I would never hesitate to,
Because it's easy, easy,
And I know what you would say,
You can leave me, leave me,
But a part of you will stay,
Just leave it to me,
Is it warm in there in the shade?
I am the blade that brings you all eye to eye,
Friend and foe,
When did we start repeating ourselves?
When did we start repeating ourselves?
I'm on your nerves and not giving in,
Now you've started I can begin!
Because I know that, I know that,
I can only imitate you,
But I know that, I know that,
I would never hesitate to,
Because it's easy, easy,
And I know what you would say,
You can leave me, leave me,
But a part of you will stay,
Just leave it to me.
