Scars is about the Empty Child/The Doctor Dances episodes, written from the perspective of the nanogenes released by the alien med pod after it crash landed.
People can be difficult to understand at first, with most hiding their true selves under layers of visual and mental protection. It can take a while to truly learn who someone is, and to empathise not only with what's under their masks, but with why they're wearing those masks in the first place.
It's also wise to be wary of people trying to exploit those hidden depths, those who would take advantage of your vulnerabilities with the promise of greatness.
lyrics
There's no use in delay, you've got so much pain,
Already under your belt,
Such a long way, your body and your brain,
And all the the things you've felt,
I'll make you everything you wish you ever were,
If you just take a breath and hold me close,
And everything you ever wanted will be yours,
Here in life after life after how many more,
Now I know what you are really like,
Gotta find a way to bring that back,
So take off your mask and breathe,
And when I found you, you were defined by your scars,
And when I raised you I knew you would get this far,
Because I made you more than the sum of your parts,
And then I sent you out to find your face,
It's not you but it is they that wear the mask,
And in a sense your innocence is what all of you are,
Now I know what you are really like,
Gotta find a way to bring that back,
So take off your mask and breathe.
